April 9, 2026 – Last week, we highlighted the record-setting viewership totals for Major League Baseball’s Opening Day on March 26. But as Netflix fans will tell you is par for the course, the release of the totals for MLB Opening Night — between the San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees on March 25 — was every bit of a cliffhanger.
But once it was announced that the matchup drew an average of 3 million US viewers, Major League Baseball — and fans around the world — erupted with applause.
According to Nielsen data, the game also drew 1.38 million viewers across the 18-to-49-year-old demographic and 636,000 in the 18-to-34 range. Both totals represent record-high marks for those respective demographics since 2017 as the league continues its push to attract younger fans and grow the game among the next generation.
For fans who can’t wait for the next episode, Opening Night was the first of Netflix’s three MLB productions this season. Netflix will be the home for the T-Mobile Home Run Derby on July 13, and will broadcast MLB at Field of Dreams on August 13.
Keep the popcorn close – this season is sure to be a hit, and the Stars look forward to being on the field in the coming years to contribute to the league’s future viewership records.
