April 22, 2026 – As we reach the final days of April, tax season is moving toward the finish line. But here in Nashville — and throughout Tennessee — the absence of state income tax is always top of mind as a key value proposition. And it’s another example of why Nashville makes sense for Major League Baseball (MLB).

A report earlier this month from Kiplinger agrees: Among the nine states with no state income tax, Tennessee was graded as the best (lowest) cost of living, thanks to factors like wages, housing costs, everyday expenses and additional tax figures like property and sales taxes.

“Tennessee offers a compelling combination of affordability and financial simplicity,” the report’s assessment of The Volunteer State begins. With housing and everyday expenses “well below the national average” and a below-average tax burden despite the above-average sales tax, the report calculates the state’s cost-of-living as approximately 10% less than the national average.

Why does Tennessee lead the way? “Low housing and living costs allow residents to retain more of their income, making Tennessee a top choice for those looking for affordability,” the report concludes.

The Stars are proud to call Tennessee home, and we look forward to being the first to bring Major League Baseball to Music City and The Volunteer State.
